Our new boss is very optimistic for the season ahead
After our opening day defeat to Richmond & Kew, we decided to grab a quick chat with new boss, Scott Carter-Brace. It wasn't the dream start we had hoped for, but after the pre-season the club has had, it was a minor miracle that the game even went ahead.
We'll be talking to Scott and Liam a lot over the coming season, so Bagshot fans will be able to keep up to date with all the latest squad information, as we progress through the season.
So Scott, tell us how you feel after your first competitive game in charge?
"Two overriding feelings. A sense of pride in helping the club get a squad together and a team out, getting fans through the door and to keep this club away from the unimaginable thought of going under. With regards the result, immense disappointment we could not get 3 points. We know this is going to take time. A lot of these lads we are bringing in have not had the time to gel or get used to each other, or even a proper pre season. That was evident in the mistakes that happened".
What team news do you have heading into Saturday?
"We have 5 key-players back!
A centre-back. 2 midfielders and 2 forwards. This will give us a massive boost. We also still have 4 players away due to injury, but it’s a start. We know we need more - that will come".
How have you found it settling into the club?
"The chairman and committee have been great. We have the support. I didn’t have that support in my previous club.
Bagshot is a proper footballing club with ambition. With that support and backing, we're doing everything we can behind closed doors to get the boys up to scratch. This means having 2 sessions a week and extending training so that we can get everyone up to speed.
We're giving all the lads a pre season over the coming mid-weeks to prove themselves. We have to work hard to meet that ambition and support the club has shown myself & Liam.
We have a player coach coming on board for the 29th from Berks County who will instantly add experience and leadership. The club are still looking for a physio, but we have a kit-man, so now it’s a case of building the blocks on the pitch, to push this club up the steps".
What’s your early-season message to the fans and footballing community?
"It’s hard for me to say this as I’m one of the most impatient people you’ll meet, but patience is needed. The team struggled last season on the pitch with only 4 wins. Stability off the pitch now is evident to see. This has given us a platform for me and my team to get the players in. However getting a team to gel and up to scratch takes time. We know we will get it right.
We’re not over complicating things, we just want the lads to show the right character and attitude to compete over the coming weeks so we can build together. We have a good 40-45 players here to choose from with others looking to come down, so we know it will all work out".
